Colour Combinations - Calling All Math Geeks...

Just a little side project taking shape, I'm making lots of little circles, numbers are growing nicely...

Still a few more to make before I join them...

I'm using five colours, each circle is made of 3 colours and I'm wondering how many I can get before I need to repeat the colour combination? I'm sure there must be a mathematical equation to work this out. So if anyone out there is super brainy (or knows someone super brainy) can they let me know the answer / equation please? Be eversograteful  xxxx

Crochet Connections

I have been enjoying the social side of my hobby this week with a little trip out with my sister to the town where she lives as she wanted to show me a couple of shops she knew I'd like.  My sis has for a long time enjoyed crocheting and has made lots of lovely things for my children and her grandchildren, she also sometimes knits, cable knitting being something she favours. I collected her from work as she had half a days leave and off we went. We headed for the first shop which sells yarn and bits and pieces but oh no! the shop was shut, not opening Mondays, boo-hoo. It looked so so nice (I had a good nose through the window) It's called Manfield Crafts and I couldn't resist going back a few days later where I had a lovely time mooching about, enjoying the colours and textures of all the yarns and chatting with the friendly ladies (in fact I was a bit giddy with excitement at finding this gem of a shop and probably embarrassed myself with all my gabble!) I did have a bit of a spend and treated myself to some Rico Design Essentials Soft Merino that I will stash away for a little while until I decide what to make with it (I'm thinking bag, scarf or add to it over time and make a blanket).

 

I love displays of pretty coloured yarn like this!

My sister also took me over to Higham Ferrers where we had a lovely cup of tea and then a mooch around The Cranberry House where I picked up some Tilda fat quarters.

 

We then popped back to her house so she could show me the granny square blanket she'd just finished:

 

 

It looks really lovely, the muted browns and rusts mixed with cream work so well and look great in her bedroom.

I had a brilliant day with my sister, sharing our mutual interest and hopefully will do the same sometime soon.

In the meantime making wise I'm still plodding away at my rainbow ripple, trying to do one stripe a day, but it is very wide so that does take ages!

 

And the other big project I have on the go is my Mother-in-laws patchwork quilt, which is growing nicely but again is very big so lots of time is needed to complete it.

 

 

Lots on the go but it really does make me happy, happy, happy!

Crochet Geek Chic

Yay! All done!

I've finished my granny square scarf and I love it! Which is fortunate really, don't you think?

And don't you love the pom-poms? I do. Think I may have developed a bit of a pom-pom fetish.

Granny Squares laid out to block over night

Yesterday afternoon I finished the border, a simple 2 rounds of double crochet to edge it neatly and so I laid it out on the floor in my daughters bedroom to block it (she was at a sleep-over so is none-the-wiser)

I like this picture, it looks like a runner for a hall-way. Hey, what about granny-square carpet? That would be brilliant, must get on to Carpets'r'us with my idea. Could do carpet tiles so you could design your own pattern, yesss!

I love the crochet geekness of my scarf, and the colours too and that it's made of yarn left over from another project (ok, yes and a bit more)

It's been raining non-stop all day today so we haven't ventured far but I did pop to Tescos and wore my scarf then. Such fun!



Ragdolls & Granny Squares

Best of Friends!

I have been happily making granny squares from the left over yarn I used for the baby ripple blanket. I thought I would have enough to make a scarf for myself, but no. As usual I have misjudged the amount needed and have run out of the rose pink and plum colours (the colours used to make the pom-poms for the blanket)

I really like how the scarf is looking. The denim colour I've used as my joining colour really appeals to me and I wear my denim jacket a lot and I think it will go well. So yes, I went online back to Deramores and ordered some more of the yarn I need to complete my project, missing the Saturday  order before 1pm for same day dispatch by 7 minutes (they are speedy posting out so it will probably come on Tuesday).

I did feel really frustrated as if I had enough yarn I possibly could've finished the scarf this weekend. I didn't want to put it away as I do have an awful habit of not finishing things and I'm trying to buck that trend and get all projects in my unfinished pile done. So the little dollies that have been lying half done on the computer printer for a couple of weeks benefited from my hold-up and I finished them off in about 20 minutes.
They are from Mollie Makes (where else?) but I did add to the pattern as I thought they were a bit skinny. What I like best about them is that the heads and bodies are joined together before sewing around the edge. I find it really hard to attach toy necks to bodies after stuffing, it never feels very secure to me.

So I'm glad that I finished off one of many unfinisheds, and they are sweet. Hopefully my baby girl will appreciate them when she's a bit older. I will carry on with my scarf next week when the postman calls.......
PS. late last night I was very naughty and started the big ripple blanket I've been dreaming about for weeks, will I ever learn?
I'll keep you posted with my progress - on all the projects!!

Crochet Primrose Square Blanket

Well, as promised is a crochet delight I've recently finished for you to peruse. I've called it the primrose square blanket as it's made up of 25 primrose granny squares finished with a border.

I bought the Rowan handknit cotton yarn from John Lewis with the intention of making a bag, now for the life of me I can't remember why I changed my mind but I did and decided on granny squares. I soon ran out of yarn and when I took my daughter and her friends to see LOL at the cinema in Milton Keynes I took the opportunity to buy some more. Bit expensive at £3.45 a ball but it is quality and nice to crochet with.

 The primrose is made of pink, cream and cassis colours and is lovely as a flower on it's own.  I then used the chocolate brown colour to make the square shape. As I was sewing the squares together I wasn't that keen on it and was going to call it 'Primrose in the Mud' because it seemed quite dull.

I then added the border, which I made up myself.  I crocheted the scalloped edge to copy the cassis petals in the middle of the flowers. The border really made a difference as it lifted the colours and bought them all together.

So once the border was on I really liked it again and was really pleased with my effort. It is really heavy for a small blanket which gives it a quality feel and I like the subtle colours.

It's now lives nicely on the back of our old brown leather sofa.
